Obituary for Herman Robert "Bob" Peterson

Herman Robert “Bob” Peterson, age 90 of Ludington, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2016 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.

He was born on June 14, 1926 in Ludington to the late William and Vivian (Sjogren) Peterson. Bob attended Ludington High School graduating in 1944, then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from (1944-1946). He served proudly in the Seabees in the Philippines.

Bob married Claribel VanVolkenburg on September 20, 1947 in Ludington. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2002.

Bob was a welder for Dow Chemical Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed woodworking and made many items for family members. He was an active member of the Mason County VFW 6842, American Legion Post 76 and Emanuel Lutheran Church.

He was devoted to his family and was a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews and extended family members, and will be missed dearly by all.

Bob is survived by his sister; Lorraine Peterson Emms, son; Robert L. (Sara) Peterson, daughters; Cinda (Ron) Nowak and Tamra Brunke, grandchildren; Anna (Eric) Atkinson, Drew (Brittany) Peterson, Elissa (Brad) Sterkenburg, Michael (Mary) Nowak, Paul Nowak, Ryan Brunke and Megan (Matt) Besaw, also six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother; William (Bill) Peterson and great-grandson Owen Peterson.

Funeral services for Bob will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ludington with Pastor Mick Shriver officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation the day of service at 10:00AM and also on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington from 4:00-7:00PM. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington with military honors by American Legion Post 76 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions can be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 76 or Alzheimer’s Association.
