Dear Paul, In the hospital you pulled two pictures from your tote Box of Life, as you called it, to set aside for Dan. The first picture, was a 9th grade Mona Shores Band photo. There you were in the middle holding a bass drum stick. I probably would have been in the picture holding my clarinet but my family moved to the district second semester! By 10th grade, there you were; I could look over my shoulder in the band room and see you, in the percussion section, behind the woodwinds. Or, I could look straight accross the band and see my boyfriend Dan and his alto sax. And he was your friend. By 11th grade, you were in Chicago after your family moved. When our English class went on a field trip to see a play (Barefoot in the Park) in Chicago, Lynn Cluchey (I think it was Lynn) and I snuck out from the next event and took the elevated train to your family's apartment. Later, in this century, you, Kathy, Dan and I would walk the Chicago streets after seeing the play Wicked and listen to you reminisce about your after school job for a tailor, running either fabric or finished goods, I believe, between shops. The second picture, also a 9th grade Mona Shores photo, was the Student Council. And there you were, in the front row at the table, so you must have been one of the elected positions. This part of you was completely unknown to me! Such a young kid, not grown into your "height" yet. Thank you for saving these pictures! We really had a lot of fun in high school, double-dates, necking in Tim Thielbar's basement parties, sitting on the beach at Pere Marquette Park, all of us having intense life discussions; all of this before your move to Chicago, and then the move to Georgia, where you graduated high school. Who could predict that less than 2 years later you would be in Vietnam? And back home (Muskegon), I recall recording casssette tapes to send to you, a group of us, passing around the recorder and holding those two buttons down, sitting on the red carpeted floor in Thielbar's (Dan's parents house) basement, saying whatever mundane and inane thoughts came to mind. Did I write you any letters in Vietnam, Paul? I honestly cannot remember. But I do remember since then and right up until now, the many wonderful, meaningful, trying, mournful, and very satisfying times together since then. Being allowed to remain in your life as a friend, until the last possible moment was, and is, a great gift. Thank you, to you and Kathy, for that gift. And those two pictures from the Box of Life? Well, they have been returned to Kathy, so that your children and grandchildren might understand where your love of music and your commitment to doing the right thing may have begun.

My beautiful wife (Traci, Paul's daughter) has given me alot of things in the last 17 years....let me explain. She gives me love daily. She has given me 2 wonderful sons. She's given me aunts, uncles, great and fun cousins, an awesome brother and sister in law and she has also made me an uncle. Some of these I have in my immediate family but we do not keep in touch as I come from a Mother and Father that were not a "mom and Dad" (if you know what I mean). My wife Traci gave me a "MOM and a DAD" for the first time ever. Over the last 17 years of knowing Paul and Kathy Bromley they have become my Mom and Dad. I am sure Mike Heemstra (Kathys's son, my brother) doesn't mind sharing this beautiful loving lady we call mom.

312 Gaylord ave is heaven on earth. This is where these 2 loving people live, shared their lives and their love with all of us. Kathy (Mom), I know, will continue enjoying the gift of life and her love with all who come by. Know this mom, you our so loved by many as I've seen this first hand over this trying time.

My dad has given me more than I can put in words in this story. He showed me that being able to forgive is a gift. I am a better husband, dad and friend to others because of his guidness and actions. When stuck with a difficult decision or problem I ask myself "what would dad (Paul) do?" He also gave his time! Time is precious to all of us but this man would stop, listen and make you feel you were the most important person alive. He didn't judge but spoke his mind. This man walked the talk. I bet most of this wish we could say the same. I am still working on it.

As I watched the string of people coming to say their good byes it struck me that life is a journey of relationships. Life is how you made a difference in other's lives and that you enjoyed them and they you. I have never met a man that could do it all. There are frames on the wall that show he was the Hope Hospice volunteer of the year many times, where he held the hands and comforted people he didn't know in their finally moments, he was a man of faith and God, yet he could have drink and rip it up with best of them. He was everything to everybody he knew. He served our country and was very proud of this as we are of him.

Dad, Thank you for your gifts of guidness, your unconditional love and the family I never had. I love you dearly. Save me a chair at that Euchre table in the sky!

I had the opportunity to work with Paul many years ago. Paul was a shear delight to deal with and a man of principles. Straightforward and not willing(and I suspect not able) to try to shift blame. Although it has been many years since I have seen or spoke with Paul-I remember him well-that is a testament to the person he was. I am sure he will be missed dearly by those fortunate to have been close to him.

I remember Paul as a friendly, caring gentleman. He was one of the founders of the Community Table. His death leaves a hole in our community, and we will miss him.
